AUDREY ANN RILLER

November 6, 1934 – December 4, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey, visual artist/art educator, mother, friend, and inveterate traveller who passed away peacefully in hospital.

She leaves to mourn, her son Paul Leathers and daughter-in-law Trudy Golley; second cousin, Pam Fillion (Ray) and family; and her many, many local and international friends.

Audrey was predeceased by parents, Bill and Gladys Riller; brother Carl; ex-husband Winston Leathers; and partner Derek Louden.

Audrey was born in Victoria and raised in Winnipeg, MB. She graduated from the Winnipeg School of Art specializing in ceramics and printmaking, and was best known for her Pop Art Feminist imagery, use of innovative Day-Glo colours, and digital xerography. After retiring from teaching art at St. John's Ravenscourt School for twenty-six years, she returned to Victoria, and travels to Australia - where she met Derek - Europe, North America, South America, and Southeast Asia soon followed.

Special thanks to caregiver David Blankenborg, and the doctors and staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital.

As per Audrey's wishes there will be no service, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local art gallery's educational programming would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My wife Beverly struck it rich by forging a strong and lasting friendship with Audrey. I don’t know if our family adopted Audrey or she adopted us? She was an integral part of our lives for a long time and we enjoyed her hospitality, her sense of humour, her advice (asked for not) and her zest for life. She enriched our lives with her presence on many occasions and with her Art on a consistent basis. I have no doubt she’ll make friends wherever she is! Beverly and I share nothing but positive, loving memories. Our children also benefitted immensely from her friendship and interest in them. - Posted by: Gavin Scott (Friend) on: Jun 09, 2026

  • Such sad news. Sending heartfelt condolences to Audrey’s family. I remember her fondly. She was so welcoming, I spent many beautiful times at her place, enjoying drinks & appetizers with her & other SJR colleagues. She was a beautiful woman inside & out. She was a most talented & passionate artist. Gerry & I still have one of her paintings in our home. Rest in the arms of the Angels, Audrey. 🙏🏼💫.
